Joan  Lui, Orange County Office

Joan LuiMs. Lui received her Juris Doctorate in 2007 from the University of West Los Angeles. Before joining Goldman, Magdalin & Krikes, she worked as house counsel for Travelers Insurance Company handling their workers compensation claims. Prior to that, she worked as applicant’s counsel handling a voluminous caseload and gaining invaluable trial experience. Prior to practicing workers compensation law, she worked on civil and criminal matters.

Anita A. Abd, Central Coast Office

Anita A. AbdAnita Abd received her undergraduate degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 2003. Thereafter, she received her MBA from Cal Poly in 2005. While attending Cal Poly, she worked as a paralegal for a prominent Applicants’ Attorney and attended court several days a week and met with clients, communicated settlement offers, stipulated awards and worked with other parties in the case towards bringing the case to a resolution. Ms. Abd received her Juris Doctorate degree from Ventura College of Law in 2010.

Kirk J. Morales, Bay Area Office

Kirk Morales attended the University of Missouri where he earned his undergraduate degree in Business Management in May 1996, graduating Summa Cum Laude.  He then continued his education at the University of Missouri where he received his Juris Doctorate in May 1999.  While attending law school, Kirk developed an interest in employment issues, and completed an externship during his 3rd year of law school through the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. 
 
Kirk became licensed to practice law in California in December 1999, and has practiced in a number of areas during his career, including insurance coverage/bad faith, construction defect, legal malpractice, and general civil litigation.  Before joining GMK, he also served as Assistant General Counsel for a commercial and residential construction company.  Kirk now specializes in workers' compensation defense where he represents carriers, TPA's, and self-insureds, including the defense of Labor Code Sec 132a and Serious & Willful Misconduct claims. 

Cortney  Lemos-Crawford, San Diego Office

Courtney Lemos-Crawford earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State University where she majored in Women's Studies and minored in Political Science, graduating with distinction. She obtained her Juris Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson School of Law. During law school, Ms. Lemos-Crawford obtained a certificate in the Law & Social Justice Program, was an Honor Roll member, and received the CALI Award of Excellence and the Jefferson Medal Award. Ms. Lemos-Crawford also interned as a law clerk with the San Diego District Attorney's Office and the San Diego City Attorney's Office.

Prior to joining our firm, Ms. Lemos-Crawford practiced insurance defense for another state-wide defense firm in California. She has over 8 years in the field of workers' compensation as a paralegal and then, following receipt of her law degree, as an applicant's attorney, before switching to defense work. Ms. Lemos-Crawford currently represents self-insureds, employers and insurance carriers in all aspects of Workers' Compensation defense. She is a member of the State Bar of California, the San Diego County Bar Association, and the Lawyer's Club of San Diego. 

Joshua A. Mauras, Orange County Office

Joshua Mauras graduated from Chapman University in 2005 with a Degree in Business Administration. Mr. Mauras was a four year letterman and defensive captain on the football team in college, before earning his Juris Doctorate from Chapman University School of Law in 2009. While in law school, Mr. Mauras took advantage of myriad internship and clinical opportunities to gain invaluable litigation experience as a Judicial Extern under Justice Thomas E. Hollenhorst on the 4th District Court of Appeal, a Certified Law Clerk in the Riverside District Attorney's Office, and student representative in the AMVETS Military Law and the Claremont Institute Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence Constitutional Law Clinics.

Mr. Mauras joined Goldman, Magdalin & Krikes, LLP in April 2014 after nearly seven years at one of the largest workers' compensation defense firms in the country. Mr. Mauras has represented clients before the California Court of Appeals, the US Central District of California, the US Southern District of California, the US Eastern District of California, the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, and the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board. He currently defends clients in all aspects of workers' compensation litigation, but also has extensive experience in civil subrogation litigation. 

Jessica A. Tyndall, Central Coast Office

Jessica A. Tyndall earned her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from San Jose State University in 2011, where she graduated cum laude. She earned her Masters of Dispute Resolution and her Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law in 2014, where she also graduated cum laude.

Ms. Tyndall began her career in the Workers' Compensation field as a law clerk for Goldman, Magdalin & Krikes, LLP. She is a member of the State Bar of California, California's Workers' Compensation Section.

Kristin A. Schallert, Los Angeles Office

Kristin A. Schallert earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, International Relations from the University of California, Riverside in 2010. She received her Masters in Public Policy, specializing in International Relations from Pepperdine University School of Public Policy in 2014.

Ms. Schallert earned her Juris Doctor from Pepperdine School of Law in 2014. She developed Pepperdine's Global Justice Practicum, worked with Justice Ventures International to prepare recommendations to Indian Parliament on legal reform regarding modern day slavery, and prepared legal guides for Indian attorneys regarding government benefits and legal entitlements.

Ms. Schallert began her career in the Workers' Compensation field as a law clerk for Goldman, Magdalin & Krikes, LLP. She is a member of the State Bar of California, California's Workers' Compensation Section.

Eric B. Anthony, Los Angeles Office

Eric B. Anthony  received his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from California State University, Northridge in 2006, and his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School in 2010. While in law school, he served as the President of the Student Bar Association and was a member of the Southwestern Law Review.

Mr. Anthony currently represents employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in all aspects of Workers' Compensation defense, including complex lien litigation. In the past, he has represented both employees and employers in various labor and employment matters, including FEHA discrimination/harassment litigation, and wage and hour disputes.

He is admitted to practice before all California courts, as well as the United States District Court, Central District of California.

Darlene M. Ball, Central Coast Office

Darlene BallDarlene M. Ball attended the University of Southern California and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1985. In 1990 she earned her J.D. degree from the University of San Diego.

She has 25 years experience in the practice of law. She is a Certified Specialist in worker's compensation law. Prior to joining GMK, she was a managing attorney with 2 prominent worker's compensation defense firms headquartered in Southern California. For the last 13 years she successfully defended worker’s compensation carriers and employers at Trial, taken depositions, managed a caseload and managed satellite offices. Prior to that she was a managing attorney for a state wide insurance defense firm practicing civil litigation including civil jury trials. She is admitted to practice before the California Worker's Compensation Appeals Board, California Superior Courts, California Supreme Court, US District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts and the US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

Susannah L. Burge, Ventura County Office

Susannah L. Burge received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science International Relations from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1991. She earned her Juris Doctor from Ventura College of Law in 1996.

Prior to joining Goldman, Magdalin & Krikes, LLP, Ms. Burge spent ten years as a specialist with State Compensation Insurance Fund and most recently as Managing Attorney for a Southern California workers’ compensation defense firm. Ms. Burge currently represents employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in all aspects of Workers’ Compensation defense.
